8/5/05It continues to be very dry with no rain in sight. Our dam is all but dry. We fill up our fish pond everyday for the animals and birds to drink. Once again this evening I heard Glossy Black Cockatoos calling only a hundred or so metres away somewhere in the bush not long before sunset along with droves of Crimson Rosellas who had probably been to the pond for a drink. There were half a dozen kangaroos not far away.Of course when I rush off to get the camera, they have moved on when I return.... The last time we heard Glossies calling was when the Coastal Facilities Coordinator Heidi Bartram came out 2 weeks ago to do an Intertidal zone survey in preparation for Wednesday when students from Kingscote and Parndana Area Schools come to do a Marine Studies survey. For the other half of the day the Investigator Science and Technology Centre from Adelaide will involve the students in a session called "Energy for Today and Tomorrow"
2/4/05Yesterday was very hot, especially for April!! The bird bath was filled several times as it was swarming with bees looking for a drink. The wallabies are still coming to the front lawn every day to nibble off what scant grass there is, sometimes in the middle of the day.
On Easter Sunday we all had a swim and saw a small stingray up very close. The previous weekend when we went swimming it was also flat calm, crystal clear and we saw a much larger one also up close. The white sandy beach is absolutely beautiful for swimming at present, but we know that we have to make the most of it because with the first winter storm it will be gone!!
5/3/05It has been a busy week with tours. Our guests last weekend after 2 days of seeing lots of the wonderful things on KI opted for a special tour with David on Monday. The day before they had seen 3 goannas on our track at different spots as they drove out, so it was great to spot the biggest echidna David had ever seen near our track as we headed off for a personalised walk on the beach at Seal Bay with Australian Sealions.

As we were going out touring on Thursday with some guests we saw a koala in a very low eucalypt off our track. Pat has seen a koala there previously quite some months before which is great as it is not a preferred feeding tree for koalas. Its great how many koalas we do see as we do not have habitat for them.
3/5/20We have just finished a major update of our website, when we checked the wildlife diary we were amazed at how long it is since we updated it. It has really been a wonderful summer, lots of guests, all seeing lots of animals. In fact the guests who have just departed this morning wrote in the guestbook - a marsupial heaven!!
Last week we had some guests who had a great time snorkelling, they were really impressed at the number and size of fish in the ocean, one of our guests found some crayfish and brought two up for dinner, a lovely meal was had by all!!
This last weekend we once again had a beautiful day and went swimming down in the swimming hole at Pebble Beach, it was really glorious.
There are many wallabies and kangaroos around at present, feed in the wild is getting very short as it has not rained for a while. They are even coming in large numbers to the fish pond at the back of the house, so it doesnt matter where you are in the house, you can usually see either wallabies or kangaroos in the morning and evening and sometimes in the middle of the day!!
