Today our guests took a tour with us. Driving up our track we came across a black Tiger snake sunning itself by the side of the track. We watched it from some distance then it shot off very quickly into the bush.
Our first destination was Seal Bay to see Australian Sealions. There are only about 10,000 left in the world so it was great to walk amongst good numbers of them on the beach. We also visited Pardana Wildlife Park where we handfed the kangaroos and saw the koalas up close. Sometimes our guests also have enjoyed cuddling the koalas at the park.
After dinner we went on an early evening tour to Lathami Conservation Park. This time offers the best opportunity for bird spotting and we saw six endangered Glossy Black Cockatooes flying past. On the way home we saw five koalas and at least 30 kangaroos out feeding and many Tamar Wallabies, too many to count!!
We then went for a Nocturnal Walk down to Pebble Beach. The sky was absolutely beautiful, David pointed out to the guests some of the main features of the Southern Hemisphere constellations. At Pebble Beach our guests saw a number of Little Penguins some moulting, some coming in from feeding, and one was nesting under the boat!!!

Beautiful still evening, we decided to give our guests the most romantic of evenings. Dinner under the stars with candlelight. We put the table and chairs out on paving by the BBQ, and set it out just as the sun was disappearing. It was truly a beautiful picture, two people sitting with candlelight, with the first stars of the evening and a backdrop of the blue blue ocean tinged with the gold of a gorgeous sunset!!
It was actually a lot like the garden of Eden because as they were sitting quietly watching the animals coming out to feed and the beautiful scenery, a Tiger Snake poked its head out of a hole a few metres away. They sat still and watched it for about 10 minutes slithering about its business!!!
12/1/04It has been an incredibly busy couple of months. We have been very fortunate with lovely weather, beautiful sunny days with a light breeze blowing. Guests have very much enjoyed the bird life, especially the Wedge tail eagles and the Fairy Wrens, and the wallabies.

One evening while guests sat out in the conservatory there must have been at least a dozen wallabies eating on the lawn. It was fascinating to watch them eat and play while we were only a glass wall away!!

Another evening was very still so we all sat out at the BBQ area, we call it the BBQ with the best view in the world!!
Anyway we were all sitting laughing and talking enjoying the stars and the moon over the sea when we suddenly realized that some wallabies were between us and the house quietly munching away.

It is truly lovely to live amongst the natural world and be a part of it in a small way.
8/12/03It has been a really exciting couple of weeks, not only for wildlife sightings but for the business as well.

Last week when David was taking Alex to school, one of our huge Wedgetail Eagles flew out of a tree quite close to the road, David and Alex looked closely and realized that it was the eagles roost, as there was another eagle sitting in the tree. This was a surprise, as the tree is quite low to the ground. The next day the eagles were both sitting there again.
Just a little further up the track David and Alex came across a koala leisurely ambling across the road. This was with the usual number of kangaroos and wallabies that are around at that time of day.

Later in the week Pat was walking up the track and came across a large koala sitting in a tree. It was so close that she could almost reach out and touch it. It looked at Pat, chewing slowly and Pat looked back, then moved on up the track.

Then on Friday night we went to the South Australian Tourism Awards. It was just like being at the Oscars!! We were very excited to receive a High Commendation in our category, New Tourism Development. We went on stage and shook Mike Rann, the Premier's, hand.
24/11/03Really beautiful morning, very still and it has rained over night. We have had some really lovely weather for the past month. This morning when I looked out the front, there by the BBQ were mother and joey. She has a new joey, so I presume the older one has become independent. It is probably now one of the many kangaroos living around us. There seems to be more kangaroos at present than wallabies. They are coming up quite close to the house. I was lying on my bed the other day and one was munching just outside the door, it ws a great moment!
There are also more kangaroo droppings on the front lawn, so they are feeding well at night.
We have also seen a sea eagle quite a lot lately flying at the edge of the cliff, which is probably why we have not seen so many wallabies, they do not like the sea eagle.
