31/10/03After quite a windy night I went walking through the bush, just in case anything had blown away.
As I walked around the front of the house in the sky were two Wedgetail Eagles being chased by a tiny bird. I have seen this many times but it never ceases to amaze me, that such a tiny bird can chase the huge eagles away from their nest.
Continued on into the bush, suddenly realised that not ten feet away were two huge kangaroos just looking at me. It gave me such a start!
The incredible thing was that they continued to stand there, and we just looked at each other.
It was such a thrill to be so close to a truly wild animal, who showed no fear of me.
We have seen lots of kangaroos over the past few weeks, the young bucks have been play fighting out the front, and we are seeing mothers with young joeys all around the place.
Another great sight the other day was a wallaby, right outside the kitchen window, eating the lawn happily in a steady rain.
5.00pm Sitting in the conservatory having drinks while the sun set and the animals started to come out we suddenly saw a huge sea eagle at the base of the cliff. A rare and wonderful sight.
17/10/03What a wonderful day! Weather sunny, gentle East wind.

7.50 Alex to bus - we missed it!! On way back just stopped in time, black Tiger snake slowly crossing track. Head flattened because its angry. we are too close. It disappears into bush.
8.15 Guests go for walk to see Little Penguin burrows before checking out.
11.00 am Pat has just seen fish schools in the bay 90 m below from the clifftop. One is a moving dark blob, the other is large fish swimming in more or less a circle with lots of silvery flashes in the sunlight close to Whiting Rock. David and Alex go down to orchid gully and around the pebble beach to whiting rock to cast out to the fish school. 1metre swell and odd bigger waves. Alex gets wet ( not Dad!) and loses bottoms amongst the rocks. Disappointing result!!
11.30 Guests back from walk Pat shows them the fish schools, watch in amazement as the fish moved in huge swathes through the water. Also watched Alex getting wet!!
12.30 New flower spotted by track on way back, purple with 6 petals, possibly a sun orchid. Also lots of fresh diggings but no echidnas to be seen. Three kangaroos hop past wind generator then stop and watch us walk to put rods in shed.
4.00 Head down again into Orchid Gully to dig out Scotch Thistle seen earlier( some starting to flower)
5.30 Time for bubbles out by the BBQ with our first strawberries from the greenhouse. Watching more kangaroos and wallabies feeding a few metres away.
