Glossies, figs and almonds

10 Mar 2019

Again today for the third time this week today the unique call of a Glossy Black Cockatoo has been heard as they flew by near the Retreat. On Friday I saw three of them as they went by about 100 metres away with their distinctive silhouette. The photos show the tail feathers of the endangered South Australian sub species             ( extinct on the mainland ) on the left, two male  and two female with the last three feathers on the right from birds from WA.

The photo below is courtesy of the Natural Resources KI website and shows a female Glossy.

Our orchard has just finished producing lots of peaches and the last few days we have been busy picking figs to dry on the fire. We also picked two bucket fulls of almonds today as well....

More information about Glossy Black Cockatoos is available on the Natural Resources KI website:     https://www.naturalresources.sa.gov.au/kangarooisland/
