A Koala and Bush Fire Update

Lots of Koalas perished in the recent KI bush fires perhaps halving the population. Over population of the Koalas here was a problem but the KI subspecies is a very valuable national asset as they do not have many of the mainland diseases that Koalas there have.

Its not often that you get a nice low, close view of a Koala in the wild but here is one not far from our track spotted on a walk around the property a few days ago. Here is a better photo ! :

There was welcome rain last weekend so the bush fire threat has eased on KI. Bush fire clearing is continuing steadily around the Retreat as time and energy permits. With its position down hill on the North Coast, the Retreat continues to provide a unique holiday experience for the discerning traveller wishing to experience the unspoilt natural beauty of Kangaroo Island.
